2023 DIRISA Student Datathon Winners
The 2023 DIRISA Student Datathon focused on the theme “Youth Unemployment”. Youth Unemployment was chosen as a theme as it’s a devasting challenge that faces our country. The Datathon provides students with the platform to be able to show their capabilities and use data science, data analysis and research to try and solve socio-economic problems that face South Africa.
The teams that participated in the datathon were:

- University of Fort Hare
- University of Zululand
- Tshwane University of Technology
- University of Witwatersrand
- University of the Western Cape
- Vaal University of Technology
- University of MpumalangaUniversity of Cape Town.
The winners of the 2023 DIRISA Student Datathon Challenge were:
Momentum sponsored a cash prize of R100 000 to the top 3x winning teams in the technical challenge:
- Sol Plaatjie University
- Wits University
- University of Zululand
The 3x top research posters won cash prizes to the value of R30 000, these were sponsored by Spectra Logic:
- Sol Plaatjie University
- Tshwane University of Technology
- University of Zululand
The 2x best male and female students won bursaries to the value of R100 000 from Korbicom Educational Trust.
The best team was won by University of Mpumalanga.
