On the 24 October 2018, DIRISA held the National Research Big Data Strategy Workshop at the CSIR ICC. The aim of the workshop was to discuss the main themes that have been identified in the Big Data draft strategy:

  • Human Capital Development: developing the next generation of expertise and skills;
  • Cyberinfrastructure: providing a sustained and advanced national information technology infrastructure;
  • Collaboration: establishing an R&D ecosystem that more closely links government, academia and the private sector;
  • Data governance: advocating sharing and reuse while preserving the ethical use of big data; and
  • Coordination: overarching national coordination of big data investments and initiatives

The workshop was well attended by industry, business, government and academic institutions. The delegates were each divided into separate groups to discuss the themes, below are each groups reports:

Group D – Data Governance
Group E – Coordination
