CODATA-RDA Research Data Summer School

The CODATA-RDA Research Data Summer School, to be hosted in Pretoria from 13 to 24 January, 2020, provides early career researchers (M-level to postdoc) with the foundational data science skills, which include technical skills and responsible research practices, to enable them to work with their data in an effective and efficient manner required by 21st century research.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

The material covered by the programme is fundamental to all areas of research, and thus open to researchers and professionals from all disciplines that deal with significant amounts of research data. The goal is to provide a practical introduction to these topics with some theory and extensive hands-on training.

PROGRAMME

The ever-accelerating volume and variety of data being generated is having a huge impact on a wide variety of research disciplines, from the sciences to the humanities. The international, collective ability to create, share and analyse vast quantities of data is having a profound, transformative effect. What can justly be called the ‘Data Revolution’ offers many opportunities coupled with significant challenges. High among these is the need to develop the necessary professions and skills. Contemporary research – particularly when addressing the most significant, inter-disciplinary research challenges – cannot effectively be done without a range of skills relating to data. The CODATA-RDA School of Research Data Science has developed a short course curriculum, in summer school style, that addresses these training requirements.
